One of my favourite upcoming designers is Gloria Wavamuno from Uganda. She a 26 year old designer ,I feel with a bright future ahead of her. I love the way she use African fabric to design her clothes with a western twist. At Africa fashion week last year held in south Africa ,she was one of the two Ugandans who showcased their work .These are some of her designs from this year’s London fashion week .Most of her inspiration comes from the 50’s.
Miss Wavamuno’s collection at the 2011 London fashion week also sent out message about Africa. In the picture above, one of the models is wearing a t-shirt that says “i’m responsible for my Africa”.She is also set up Kampala Fashion Week that aims at showcasing Ugandan talent to the world and a springboard for designers in Uganda. She hopes in the future it will be as big as Paris or Milan fashion week. I know Uganda is far away from this but it good to know that young people believe in us.Below is miss Wavamuno
