Emang Mwanamke

Emang Mwanamke

I consider myself to be a true child of the soil, having been born and raised in Botswana, with both parents from Ghana, and now building a future with my husband, who is from Zimbabwe.

As a child, I always topped my class in science and maths. This led me to study Electrical Engineering at University. I now work in London managing electrical infrastructure projects. Having worked for a number of years in a mostly white, ageing and male dominated field, I have faced many challenges, so much so that I started to believe I did not belong in this area. But I am still here and am determined to make my mark right from where I am. It is through this determination that I have started a women’s network aimed at supporting, promoting, inspiring and encouraging women of African descent in science, engineering, technology and business. It is a very tricky task but I have found a cause in reaching out to these women and helping them to stand out as our role models; which I am passionate about. In terms of Africa’s future, I believe engineering must be at the helm of development in Sub Saharan Africa. I also believe that women can and will play a very important role in driving this development forward through business.
