Salha Kaitesi started Beauty of Rwanda after coming across the hard-working women basket weavers and their children in Rwanda, her native country. The aim of the company is to promote the socio-economic wellbeing of vulnerable groups in Rwanda. The basket weavers were facing poverty and she thought of improving their lives by selling their traditional hand woven crafts in order for them to overcome that. These women are the bread winners of their families because either their husbands were killed during the Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi or are in prison for the crimes they committed during the genocide. Some are also living with HIV after being raped during the genocide and need the income in order to buy essential medicine.
